How to catch a reader with narcolepsy

To keep costs down you may find yourself writing your own editorial or website content. It may be more cost effective to hire a professional, as it can be time consuming if you are not experienced.

Here are a few tips to get you started. The most important part is to do your research. It is often a good idea to pretend you are your competitor, and continually ask yourself questions to gain the best objective stance.

Tips for writing editorials for print

  • Write short concise sentences and cut copy, don't add it. We are all guilty of writing absolutely everything down.
  • Remember to always write in the second or third person.
  • Get familiar with the thesaurus, don't loose readers with repetition of words.
  • Make sure the topic is current, relevant, use facts and be 100% honest.

Tips for writing website content

  • Get to the point, most web content is scan read so you don't have long to catch the reader.
  • Write compelling headings (like ours, of course!).
  • Use images to break up content and keep the reader interested.
  • Avoid using abbreviations, industry slang, explain acronyms and don't assume everyone is an expert in what you are talking about.
  • Include hyperlinks but only to reinforce what you are saying. www.creativeremedy.co.uk (ok it is only relevant if you need our help!)
